Zips in the style of by Barnett Newman

Hello friend, how are you?

Gosh, I can't believe I've been gone for weeks! Even though I wasn't meaning to.

So what have I been doing?

I've been experimenting with Post War Abstract Paintings through the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

It's been a really rewarding experience to learn about an era gone by and to tap into some of the old Masters from the New York Art School to strengthen my own skills.

Here is the first Barnett Newman recreation:

Tape added to one side. Barnett Newman used masking tape but I used Painter's tape I had on hand.

A second color over the entire canvas was added and the tape removed either when the canvas is completely dry or while it's still wet to reveal strip of paint from previous color.

For second Zip add paint between two strips of tape and remove.

Catch a video of the whole process on my brand new Facebook page.

It's awesome to always learn something new.
